In the fall of 2003 Prophesy decided to extend its' line of solution and service to the wireless market. Due to increased availability of GPS data service and GPS capable devices Prophesy decided to utilize Nextel i730, i58sr and i88s devices which support J2ME for mobile client application, internet for communication of mobile client and server side, and GPS for tracking trucks and driver's positions. System was developed step-by-step. The first version support authorization of driver on server, remote configuration of mobile client and transmitting GPS data to server. Operator of Dispatch system can monitor GPS data pings and keep track of all drivers and its moves. While out of coverage J2ME mobile client is able to store GPS pings and push them to server when in coverage. Syntone delivered first release of the system in less then 30 days.
The next step was adding a messaging system, when operator can send messages to the driver and driver can respond received messages. The special protocol was developed to provide messaging capability even for Nextel private IP plans. During further system growth, Syntone integrated Mobile Comm system with Prophesy Dispatch application. Prophesy Dispatch software can be installed and used for all kind fleets operations and management.
Integration was made via specially developed DMCM component which allows bi-directional synchronization of Mobile Comm Server and Dispatch software. DMCM is responsible for synchronization of data between Mobile Comm server and Dispatch software and allow sending loads originated in Dispatch to driver's mobile application. DMCM send data to Mobile Comm server, mobile application periodically request Mobile Comm server for available loads and post GPS data. When load was received by driver, driver can post responses and comments back to operator, like arrival and departure time, description and number of picked/dropped goods.
Several months of testing and system tuning produced a very reliable and stable wireless transportation solution, able to properly handle any network failures and coverage gaps.

Tracking - Case 2

AirWave Wireless Inc, - distributor of Nextel phones and services, were looking to extend it's line of services and requested Syntone to create a tracking solution that will help parents to watch for children and aged individuals.

Motorola Nextel i730, Nextel i58sr and Nextel i88s Internet, GPS and J2ME capable phones were chosen as a target platform.

In a meter of days, Syntone came with a ready-to-test solution. Downloadable J2ME application periodically request phone's GPS receiver and sends location data to AirWave server. AirWave mapping solution draws GPS pings on the map and shows the trip of person. Later, to minimize traffice usage and HTTP overheads, the protocol of communication between phone and server was switched to support UDP packets. Authorization and midlet configuration settings was added to provide greater application usability and user friendliness. Parents are able to receive email notifications with GPS pings. Also, specially designed web mapping application was created to visualize GPS data online.
